PhytoMast® Box (12 tubes per box)

PhytoMast® is a veterinary device to be used at dry-off. The primary effect of PhytoMast® is to provide a protectant film barrier between the environment and the teat canal lining. The oil coats the surface of the teat canal.  It is a non-antibiotic, non-prescription product. 

 

1 box of PhytoMast® contains:

12  infusion tubes, each filled with 12 ml PhytoMast® and 12 individually wrapped alcohol pads. All ingredients of PhytoMast® are considered Common Food, GRAS and/or FEMA-GRAS listed. 

 

The ingredients of each 12 ml tube of PhytoMast ® are: Olive oil, Angelica root oil, Licorice root oil, Thyme essential oil, Wintergreen leaf oil (<5%), Vit. D3, Vit. E, and Vit. A

All Ingredients are FEMA-GRAS (Flavor & Extract Manufacturers Association - Generally Recognized As Safe) and GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe)

 

For best effect, refrigerate prior to use. The paste of viscous oil creates a temporary barrier film coating in the teat canal. The cow or doe will form a natural keratin plug in 5-7 days. In the description of a product that was in commercial distribution for the bovine udder between 1928 and 1935 (Haver-Glover Laboratories “Intramammary Solution”). As it was stated: “oils coat the teat lining”. In that the primary intended effect of PhytoMast to coat the teat lining mirrors the historical product.

 

IMPORTANT: PhytoMast® creates a temporary physical barrier with its oily film coating between the outside environment and the teat canal and makes no claims against specific pathogens. 

 

 

 

 

If by accident a dry cow is milked into the tank, studies in peer-reviewed professional journals demonstrate that the combined GRAS ingredients mixture of PhytoMast® does not cause positive results with the Delvo®Test P nor does it interfere with antibiotic residue testing in the Charm® SL Beta-lactam test.

An adverse reaction can result anytime something is introduced into the teat in a less than hygienic manner. PhytoMast ® should be introduced into the teat only after utilizing the alcohol pad component to clean the teat end to make sure no environmental contaminants are introduced into the teat. 

The PhytoMast® box, alcohol pads and 12 infusion syringes should be stored in a cool dry location. Do not allow it to freeze.

PhytoMast® is indicated for dry-off in dairy cows and dairy goats with SCC less than 400,000 or that are CMT (California Mastitis Test) negative. It provides a teat protective lubricant and liquid barrier film to the surface of the teat canal and gland cistern epithelium.

 

The following steps will help to avoid introducing infectious material during intramammary infusion. 

 

Administration & Dosage of PhytoMast®

 

There are 2 steps for effective dry-off:

1) Stop milking the cow/goat and wait 5 days and then milk her one final time. 

 

This 5-day period of no udder stimulation signals the brain to stop making milk. On the 5th day of not milking her, milk the udder out completely one last time to clear out all residual milk. This residual milk is NOT for human consumption.

 

2) With an alcohol pad for each teat end, clean the teats furthest away first and then the near ones next. Allow to air dry. Then take the cap off the PhytoMast® tube and, without touching the inner tip, infuse entire contents of infusion syringe into each teat, the near teats first, then the far teats next. Use 1 tube per quarter for cows and 1 tube per half for goats.

 

By NOT massaging PhytoMast® up into the udder, the physical barrier film coating due to PhytoMast® is retained in the teat canal and cistern area.

Monitor dry dairy animals regularly for signs of mastitis. The natural keratin plug takes about 1 week to start forming and remains in place until about 1 week prior to freshening. Always keep the animal in an area which is clean and dry, especially during the critical periods just after dry-off and just prior to giving birth.  The milk from the cow, or doe can go into the bulk tank once the colostrum has changed to milk.
